Professor George Pratt

It is with sadness that I have learned of the death of former SYC member George Pratt after a year long battle with cancer.

I understand that George sailed a GP14 with his wife at SYC after he first joined our Club.

He was often to be found doing a Bar Duty and for a while managed the club's regalia supplies.

He moved on to a motor boat and then transferred membership to SFCC, but for a while still did the occasional bar duty for us,

George was a professor of music and a very good keyboard player.

In latter years he was the driving force in the rebuild and reinstatement of the pipe organ at Powderham Castle and the promotion of concerts, in the Music Room at the castle, often involving the organ and featuring up and coming artists

He will be greatly missed.
