We were blessed with a fine day and moderate winds for the Jim Vallis Memorial Cruise on Saturday 6th August. It was really pleasing to welcome 10 members of Jim's family to the club. We started things off with coffee and cakes!
Some family members joined in the sailing, and Jim's Tideway dinghy was on the water!
Seventeen dinghies made the trip down the river (on the ebbing tide) to the harbour cafe on Exmouth beach. After suitable refreshments, the fleet sailed back to the club, on the now flooding tide. Two or three dinghies encountered equipment 'failures' which meant that the two safety boats were kept busy, however all made it safely back to the club. The 'smiley face' factor was high!
We then continued on shore with more tea and cakes. Finally, we concluded by thanking our guests for coming to the club for this special day, and also thanking the safety boat crews for looking after us. Jim would have been proud!
