Yacht Cruising

Members regularly cruise to Torbay, the River Dart or Salcombe for day trips or weekends.

Our Cruise-in-Company group brings members together for informal cruises, as well as supporting those unfamiliar with a particular cruising ground by sailing in company with a more experienced member. Contact the Cruiser Section Hon Secretary for more information.

The cruiser group has a WhatsApp group for members to stay in touch (see the yachting hub page if logged on for details) regarding cruising intentions and for help with all manner of yachting issues. We also hold occasional informal social events at the club for cruiser members.

Members often undertake more distant passages each year either on their own or in company with other members on their own boats. As well as all ports west and as far as the Isles of Scilly members regularly sail east via Portland to the Dorset coast and the Solent and across the Channel to the Channel Islands and Normandy or Britany.

Below are a few examples of cruises undertaken by members in recent years:
  • 2020 A cruise in company to the Channel Islands and several ports on the North coast of Britany.
  • 2020 A circumnavigation of the south of England (along the south coast, up the Thames, through the Kennet & Avon canal and back down the Bristol Channel and round Lands End)
  • 2021 A single handed circumnavigation of Britain via the Caledonian Canal
  • 2022 Across the Channel, through the Britany canals and back through the Chenal Du Four
  • 2022 Cruises to the Dorset coast and the Solent
  • 2023 Through the French canals via Paris, the Rhone/ Saone corridor to the Mediterranean
